Halle

December 12th

Meet Hallee-5 years old and shes been hiding in her litter box at animal control for two months since her owner left. To her owner-did you know when you left her behind she would be so scared and alone? I wonder if she thought you’d be coming back?

Slowly she deteriorated as she only leaves her box to eat or drink and runs quickly back to hide, afraid of every single noise and movement, this is how frightened she has been for TWO MONTHS, day in and day out. Did you tell yourself she was better off and soon would be happy and find a home? Yet little did you know that theory was so wrong, as no one stops to see her because she never leaves the back corner of her cage.

Hallee has been with us for a week now. We gave her a couple days of space as we know how stressful it can be to move to a new area when you are already deathly frightened.

We made her cage as dark as possible so that she would feel comforted without having to worry about things jumping out at her that aren’t really there. She has nice layers of soft blankets and a bed to hide in so she feels secure on all sides.

The first couple of days she refused to eat. We knew she was drinking though as we could tell by the litter box. We tried many different types of pates and canned foods as well as a variety of dry foods to see if one day something would be just so tempting that she couldn’t possibly refuse. She began eating a couple bites, but only at night so she wouldn’t be caught doing so.

We started reaching in her cage slowly, not asking anything of her but talking to her sweetly and spending many short sessions rubbing her head. Last night was the first night we actually got a purr out of her! While she still hid in the back of her cage she no longer held her ears back. She was actually enjoying our touch! Overnight was the first night she ate a entire small pouch of food to our surprise when we checked on her first thing this morning!

Small steps Hallee…we will continue to be as patient as you need and wait to read your cues telling us your ready…

If you’d like to send her some special treats or anything to spoil her while in our care, we know she will appreciate it beyond measure over time. It truly takes a village 🩷

Hallee is just the sweetest cat and would love to find her forever home! She is approx. 5 years old, UTD on shots, spayed, current on flea & tick and dewormed.

She was at first extremely scared of humans but is working through her fears. During the time she’s been in our care we’ve learned she loves other cats and is very social with them, always trying to stay near and rub up against them, attempting to make friends with each and every one. They help her try and trust new things so being adopted by someone who already has a cat or two would sure help her to come out of her shell a little easier.

We sense that she was abused by humans but once she gets to know you, she loves to lie in your lap and purrs constantly. With slow movements she chooses to stay with you and actually craves attention, rubbing up against your hand as she asks for more. She is afraid of loud noises or lots of people and resorts to hiding spaces when overwhelmed. She has never ever swatted at someone, no matter how scared she was in the beginning. She is always the most gentle and loving cat. She is learning how to trust, it just takes time.

She needs a special home who would love to show her their gentle heart and willing to provide her a soft landing to help her continue on her journey. She is slowly learning that everything will be okay and just needs someone willing to give her patience and understanding. If you are that special someone, she promises she has lots of love to give you in return!
